Midland jiu-jitsu competitors win nine medals

Competitors from Midlandís Driven Jiu Jitsu captured nine medals at the Niagara Open on March 23, including three golds.

In the adult female division, Ashley Brown and Emily Walker both claimed championships in their respective weight classes. Brown emerged victorious despite stepping up an age division. She also won bronze in the absolute womenís division.

Walker competed up a couple of weight classes and still dominated against women 20 pounds heavier than her.

Madison Brooks won gold in the Youth Open category, while Logan Smith, Josh Barrett and Katie Barrett earned silver medals and McKenzie Lavallee and Alexander Dingle captured bronze.

In the overall standings, the 11-member Midland squad finished seventh out of 49 teams taking part.
